30 Pumpkin Carving ChatGPT Prompts

Every October I'd spend 45 minutes scrolling for a stencil, then end up freehanding a lopsided triangle face anyway. Now I type one prompt into ChatGPT and get a carving idea sized to my kids' skill level, my pumpkin, and the 20 minutes we actually have on a weeknight. Below are 30 copy-and-paste pumpkin carving prompts, sorted by difficulty and vibe, plus the exact wording that gets you a clean, printable stencil instead of a pretty picture you can't carve. Save this one for next October too.
How to get a stencil you can actually carve
Image generators love shading, gradients and tiny details. Pumpkins don't. Add this line to the end of any prompt below and your results get dramatically more usable:
Make it a pumpkin carving stencil: pure black and white, bold solid shapes only, no shading or gradients, no thin lines, every cut-out piece connected so nothing falls out, white background, vertical layout.
A few more tips that save frustration:
Say who's carving. "For a 6-year-old with a scoop and a safety saw" gets you very different shapes than "for an adult with a carving kit."
Give the pumpkin size. "Fits a medium 10-inch pumpkin" keeps the design from being too detailed to cut.
Ask for ideas first, images second. Text prompts are faster. Pick a favorite idea, then ask for the stencil image.
Iterate in one chat. "Make the eyes bigger and simpler" or "remove the bats" works better than starting over.
Check the bridges. If the inside of a letter like O or A would fall out, ask ChatGPT to "add stencil bridges."

From screen to pumpkin in 4 steps
Print it to size. Download the image and print it so the design is about two-thirds the width of your pumpkin's face.
Tape it on. Cut slits around the paper edges so it lies flat on the curve, then tape it down.
Transfer the lines. Poke along the outlines with a pushpin or poking tool every quarter inch, then peel off the paper and connect the dots.
Carve center out. Cut the smallest, most central pieces first and the big outer shapes last, so the pumpkin stays sturdy while you work.
Working-mom shortcut: carve the night before trick-or-treating, not a week ahead. A carved pumpkin typically lasts only a few days before it softens, and rubbing petroleum jelly on the cut edges helps slow drying.
